You are actually quite free to roam (or drive) around and do whatever you want. There is a main story, but you don’t have to follow it. Simply put Defiance is a massive sandbox with missions, challenges, and random events sprinkled throughout. If you are looking for massive amounts of different loot with varied stats, this is not the game for you.
